Singapore Charity Cycling

Singapore citizens mostly reside in highly urbanized areas resulting in very limited spot that gives out a sense of nostalgia. As Singapore starts involving into a busy country, everyone needs more time and a way to make full use of time would be to cycle.

Cycling has become more prevalent in Singapore as a form of recreation and as a form of transportation because not only does cycling benefit one’s health, it also helps to get to a destination. However if it is a planned activity, parks have thus become key preferred destinations for hangouts, allowing people to escape from the hustle and bustle of modern city life.

Singapore values safety so guidelines are provided on the government’s site of different mode of transportation to ensure a safe cycling for both cyclists and non-cyclists.

It is in the process of constructing a comprehensive network of cycling paths in selected HDB towns as part of the plan to promote intra-town cycling. The various cycling paths available will facilitate intra-town cycling by connecting cyclists from their homes to key public transport hubs such as MRT stations and bus interchanges.

Mass cycling events are also available in Singapore with a few being charity cycling events, one of which being Aidha Tour de Singapore – a fund raising ride for domestic workers – women who left their homes and families to travel abroad in search of employment opportunities. Aidha was selected by The Straits Times as one of the three organizations in Singapore that made and still is making a difference in the world.

To name a few more better known charity cycling events available in Singapore, they are Heart of Courage, (Re)Cycle 350 and OCBC Cycle. A more in depth about each event is to be elaborated further down in this post starting with Heart Of Courage, the first charity organized by Teen Challenge (Singapore).
